We are pleased to announce the public availability of Embedded NGX 7.0, the latest security software platform based on Check Point’s market-leading Firewall-1® and VPN-1 UTM® NGX technology.
What’s New in Embedded NGX 7.0?
Embedded NGX 7.0 offers new and exciting features, as well as enhancements to existing features.
Clientless Remote Desktop
The Remote Desktop client feature in Embedded NGX 7.0 enables you to reach any of the Microsoft Windows computers in your internal network from anywhere, via the my.firewall portal. Embedded NGX 7.0 includes an integrated client for Microsoft Terminal Services, allowing you to enjoy secure and convenient clientless access to your Windows computers, without any need for configuring special firewall rules. Transparent Bridge Mode
Embedded NGX 7.0 supports operation in transparent bridge mode. Bridge mode enables you to segment an existing network quickly and easily, without reconfiguring the existing network elements' IP addresses and default gateway settings. Bridged network segments are connected at the data-link layer, and you can choose whether to enable the firewall between the segments, and whether to enable anti-spoofing for specific segments.
Embedded NGX 7.0 supports Spanning Tree Protocol (STP - IEEE 802.1d) to enable multiple bridges or switches to exchange information among themselves. STP uses this information to eliminate loops and to provide fault tolerance.
Bridge mode is supported on the following products: Safe@Office 500 series with Power Pack, Safe@Office 225/225U, Safe@Office 425/425U, VPN-1 Edge X, and VPN-1 Edge W.
Wireless Distribution System
Wireless Distribution System (WDS) featured in Embedded NGX 7.0 allows extending the range of a wireless network without any need for a wired backbone linking the access points. When used in combination with bridge mode, WDS allows seamless roaming of wireless clients between multiple access-points required to cover a large area. To read more about WDS, click here.
WDS is supported on the following products: Safe@Office 500W with Power Pack, Safe@Office 425W, and VPN-1 Edge W.
USB Dialup & 3G Cellular Modem Support
Advances in cellular connectivity technology and the availability of reliable data links over a cellular network have made possible a new method of Internet connectivity; USB Dialup. This method is especially useful in areas where LAN lines are not installed, or when dial-up connectivity does not provide the sufficient bandwidth. In addition, many dial-up modems are now provided with a USB interface rather than a serial interface.
Embedded NGX 7.0 allows attaching a wide variety of USB-based dialup (PSTN/ISDN) and cellular (GPRS/EVDO) modems to the appliance's USB 2.0 ports. The USB modem can serve as a backup or primary Internet connection, according to your needs. The modem can be permanently connected, or it can be automatically dialed when needed and disconnected when not in use.
USB Dialup is supported on the following appliance models: Safe@Office 500W, Safe@Office 500W ADSL, Safe@Office 425W/425WU, VPN-1 Edge X ADSL, VPN-1 Edge W, and VPN-1 Edge W ADSL.
Supported dialup and cellular USB modems can be ordered from Check Point. For more information, click here .
Enhancements to Existing Features Embedded NGX 7.0 also includes enhancements to existing features, such as manual definition of the VPN internal encryption domain, on-failure policy configuration for centralized Web Filtering and Email Filtering services, protocol numbers in user-defined Rules, and more.
